James D. Harkey, Associate
James D. Harkey is an associate attorney at Ken Lester & Associates. James graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 2011, with a B.A. in History and then received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2014. During law school he worked as a clerk for local Richland County Family Court jurist, the Honorable Dottie Mobley Jones.
While earning his undergraduate degree, James competed for the UMBC men’s lacrosse team from 2007 to 2011. He served as co-captain for the Retrievers’ 2011 campaign, was named Unsung Hero of the 2010 team, and was co-recipient of the annual E. Richard Watts Leadership Award in 2011. James continues to stay active in the sport locally in Columbia, providing guidance on and off the field as head coach of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks men’s lacrosse team since the fall of 2014.
A native of the Appalachian region of Northwest Virginia, James enjoyed a diverse range of employment experiences throughout college and law school, having spent time on Capitol Hill while working for the National Rifle Association and serving our nation’s injured service men and women in the employ of the Wounded Warrior Project in Jacksonville, Florida. James joined the firm as a law clerk in the summer of 2014 and became licensed to practice law in South Carolina in the spring of 2015.
